| Ready to volunteer for the Al-Aksa Martyrs' Brigades? Gay beauties strut their stuff in the safe streets of San Francisco |
| |
Gay San Franciscans protested against Israeli-made products in Union Square, evidently after realizing that protests in Muslim neighborhoods would leave them dismembered.
In Israel, gays live openly in a free and liberal society. There is a thriving gay scene, highlighted by Tel Aviv's raucous and raunchy annual "gay pride" parade, just as there are in the metropolises of the United States and other Western democracies.
But in Palestinian areas -- as in most Islamic countries -- being gay is not only frowned upon. It is a crime that can be, and often is, punished by death and disfigurement. Palestinian gays frequently flee to Israel -- if they can get a chance.
So why would gay activists in the most gay-friendly city on Earth protest against one of the other centers of gay liberation (Israel) and for one of the planet's most violently oppressive homophobic societies?
You'll need to ask Victoria's Army, the militant arm of Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism (QUIT!), which delighted Mother's Day shoppers in San Francisco with an Israeli product fashion show outside Victoria Secret's Union Square storefront. The fashion show was the second, um, outing for the queer brigade's bold Victoria's Secret Weapon Line.
The Indybay report, titled "I Dreamed I Went to Gaza In My Secret Armor Bra," tried to put the best face on the farce:
"Tammy worked her Push 'Em Out Bra, made popular by the late Golda Meir ("there is no such thing as Palestinians), while Danielle showed off the wonders of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's own Total Control Boundary Reshaper (checkpoints and apartheid walls give you the contours you want)."
"Three types of Razor Wire bras help separate the welcome from the unwelcome and let you decide who gains access to your cleavage. Sarit modeled the bulletproof Secret Armor set, keeping soldier girls safe and sexy from Falluja to Nablus."
"Nothing's more American than Mom, apple pie, and support for Israel," intoned popular announcer DeeGee, to roars from captivated bystanders. "Who says apartheid (sic) can't be sexy?"
Victoria's Secret's bras, cotton panties and sleepware are made by the Israeli company Delta Galil. The "Shop in Israel" not-for-profit website administered by supporters of Israel urges people who support Israel to buy Victoria's Secret products.
Our questions: Will the gay boys and girls of Victoria's Army appear next in the streets of Gaza City? Would their rocket- and kakashnikov-bearing comrades of Hamas and Fatah show the same amusement with their antics as the ever-tolerant passersby at Union Square?
The Queers of QUIT, if they like street theater so much, might try moving their next protest a little closer to the action: like the receiving end of a Qassam, or hanging out for a while with their comrades who fire them.
If they thought Union Square was fun, Beit Hanoun or Sderot will be a blast. |
