David Does Damascus: Duke, in Syria, says US cities "occupied" by Zionists
By israelinsider staff and partners  November 27, 2005

The Louisiana-based white supremacist, David Duke, on a visit to Syria last week, gave a rousing speech attacking 'Zionists occupying New York' and denouncing Israel as a war-monger.

The speech, carried by Syrian state television, shows Duke, former "grand wizard" of the racist Klu Klux Klan, addressed a crowd waving Syrian flags, saying: "I come from the peace-loving people in America to the peace-loving people of Syria." He also made sure to say the President Bashar was also a peace-lover.

"It is only in America and around the world, it is only the Zionists who want war rather than peace," Duke said. "It hurts my heart to tell you that part of my country is occupied by Zionists, just as part of your country, the Golan Heights, is occupied by Zionists. The Zionists occupy most of the American media and now control much of American government," he added.

Duke said that "it is not just the West Bank of Palestine, it is not just the Golan Heights that are occupied by the Zionists, but Washington D.C., and New York, and London, and many other capitals in the world."

"I bring you a message from many Americans; from many people in Britain, and around the Western world. We say in unison: No war for Israel," he concluded.

Duke's junket to Syria follows dwindling success in peddling his message to domestic audience. Though he managed to get elected to the Louisiana Legislature in 1989, he lost races for Governor and the U.S. Senate in Louisiana, and most recently, in May, 1999, failed his his bid for a seat in the Congress.

Syrian parliament member Muhammad Habash welcomed "Duke's wonderful visit," and said that the former KKK grandwizard "has given us a new and very positive view of the average American."
