Imams' airline protest was cynical 'orchestrated stunt'

The six imams who created a media flurry for allegedly being tossed off a US Airways flight 'just for praying as Muslims' were revealed to have planned and staged an elaborate show to elicit the attention, says one well-known political blogger.

The six, including one blind man, allege that they were simply praying before a flight and because of their traditional dress and religion were unduly persecuted by the airline. A slew of civil rights and Arab/Muslim interest groups in the US banned together to sing and pray in multicultural feel-good (and some not so feel-good) 'protests'.

However, JihadWatch, a well respected watchdog blog and website, has revealed that the events were part of a well-organized staging designed to gain media attention, garner sympathy, and fire tempers across the political spectrum.

The cynical mock-Rosa Parks episode is shown to have been immediately preceded and followed by meetings with CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations)-- an American Muslim interest group-- and the North American Imams Federation (NAIF). The meetings, which focused on imams, the media, and politics, were attended by the leader of the six imams, Omar Shair who presides over NAIF, and by America's first Muslim Congressman, Keith Ellison.
