The Jerusalem district court convicted a former Knesset Member from Shas, Ofer Hugi, of fraudulent dealings, forgery and use of false documents.
According to the verdict, Hugi exaggerated the number of students in a list of children attending religious school in an effort to receive increased government funding. As a result of his fraudulent dealings, Hugi received NIS 2 million (about USD 476,000) from the ministry of education.
The Judge Yosef Shapira said that some of the students on Hugi's list do not even exist.
The Judge added that the former MK also received personal benefits from 'Hameimad Ha'Asiri' (the Tenth Dimension) organization, such as a job for his wife.
Ofer Hugi also provided the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Welfare with fabricated lists of students and teachers who he claimed worked and studied at a technological college that, upon investigation, does not actually exist.
According to the indictment, the two ministries provided Hugi with NIS 1 million (about USD 238,000) to fund the made-up college. |
