There can be no negotiations with Palestinians as long as Israel's security situation remains in flux, says Israel's Minister of Strategic Affairs, Avigdor Lieberman.
In an interview with Israel Radio, Lieberman said, "When you come to the negotiating table in a weak position, you get a bad diplomatic agreement," according to a Jerusalem Post report.
Lieberman, who is also Israel's Deputy Prime Minister, made the statement as Prime Minister Ehud Olmert pushes forward with concessions to Palestinians, particularly in meetings with Fatah party leader and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The statement made by Lieberman could be seen as an indirect criticism of Olmert's recent actions, including facilitating the transfer of 2,000 guns from Egypt to Palestinian factions on Wednesday.
Lieberman, leader of the rightwing Yisrael Beiteinu party, joined the government only months ago, a move that strengthened Olmert's Kadima governing coalition. |
