High Court rejects petition to investigate Olmert corruption

The High Court rejected a petition today to launch a probe into corruption allegations against Prime Minister Olmert, Haaretz reports

The petition, filed by the non-profit anti-corruption group, Ometz, sought an investigation into the possibility that businessmen and politicians gave Olmert expensive fountain pens in exchange for favors while Olmert was head of the Israel Lands Authority.

Olmert, whose collection of fountain pens is said to be worth upwards of a hundred thousand dollars, denied the charges.

The case was brought to the High Court when Attorney General Menachem Mazuz refused to launch the investigation citing police statements that there was a lack of evidence in the case.
