NATO is beginning to take an interest in the Iran nuclear situation with the possibility that the multinational democratic treaty alliance will have to step in if and when diplomacy fails.
"There is a growing interest on NATO's part regarding the intelligence collected around the world on Iran's nuclear program," a senior defense official said. "They want to get to know the material just in case," the Jerusalem Post reported.
Unlike the UN, NATO has strict eligibility requirements for membership. Member nations must be democratic and must conform to a specific worldview that the other NATO members endorse.
The organization, originally founded to fight the threat of imperialistic communism in the world, has begun major activities in the Mediterranean in order to combat the growing threat of terror in the region. |
