Those who welcome Israeli adoption of American cultural trends have yet another cause for celebration: baseball.
The newly formed Israel Baseball League held tryouts in Miami to scout talent for the Holy Land's first baseball team, Israel National News reports.
Among the teams-to-be are the Bet Shemesh Blue Sox, Netanya Tigers, Petach Tikva Pioneers, Jerusalem/Gezer Lions, Haifa/Nahariya Stingrays and Tel Aviv Lightning.
The league will open its first season early this summer.
Although Israeli sports fans might not know the difference between a double play, a double hit, and a double header, the league's organizers are confident that the sport could become Israel's national pastime too.
According to Martin Berger, the league's director of operations, "This is what Israelis need. Israelis need family time, time away from the stress." |
