Photos of Saddam in great demand among Palestinians

"In a show of solidarity with the executed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, hundreds of Palestinian homes have put his picture on their walls," the Palestinian News Network (PNN) reported on January 2, according to The MEMRI blog.

The Palestinian report continued, "Many already had them, as Hussein was considered a hero to many, seen as one of the few world leaders who would stand up to the United States. He was also generous morally and financially to Palestinians in general."

According to the PNN report, the demand for photographs is outweighing the supply and young men are crowding photography studios in the West Bank with "small pictures of the late Iraqi President asking for them to be enlarged for display." Others come looking for pictures to frame in their homes.

The report pointed out that Palestinians also sought photos of the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and the Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin after their deaths.
