DM calls PM corrupt, associates say

Moments after reports were released that Defense Minister Amir Peretz would be losing his job, the Defense Minister apparently launched into a tirade against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, calling him corrupt.

Associates of Peretz say that the DM told them that his potential dismissal "seems like a spin aimed at drawing attention away from the corruption in Olmert's Office," says Ynet.

Olmert, in response, claimed that there was no discussion of firing his defense minister, who is also leader of the Labor political party.

Other leaders with the leftwing party also criticized Olmert's government. Some said that reports of Peretz's dismissal were purposely leaked: "The news item that was published is another ugly spin from Olmert's media advisors who are trying to draw attention away from the corruption they are involved in," said one senior Labor official.
