New bill proposal: candidates for prime minister must file health report

The Knesset Justice Committee discussed Monday morning amending the law on candidates for prime minister. According to the new law, prime minister candidates would be forced to submit a report on their medical situation, about one month before elections.

The amendment was proposed following Former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke last year, and the events between his first stroke leading up to the second one which left him in a vegetative state.

Chairman of the Justice Committee, MK Menahem Ben-Sasson (Kadima) told Ynet before the hearing that he objected to the proposal. "I object to the bill since I feel it violates the law of patient's rights, and man's right to privacy," said Ben-Sasson. "If this bill should pass, we will witness campaign propaganda which revolves around the slightly high blood pressure and the deviating cholesterol of one candidate or another."
