Defense minister testifies before Winograd Committee

Defense Minister Amir Peretz testified Wednesday before the Winograd Committee investigating the failures of the defense and political echelons during the Lebanon war.

The committee members were expected to question Peretz about the decision that led to the launching of the military campaign in southern Lebanon, and of his consultations with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert during the fighting.

At the beginning of the month Peretz met with parents who lost their sons in the war and stressed that he has no plans of resigning his post as defense minister. However, Peretz stated that if the Winograd Committee rules that he is responsible for certain failures, he would not hesitate to draw personal conclusions.
