The Palestinian Clerics Association issued a fatwa that bans Palestinians from surrendering the right of return, accepting compensation in return for this right, or taking citizenship in another country, The Memri Blog reported.

Palestinians insist that refugees and their descendents be allowed to return to their homes as one of the stipulations of a peace agreement with Israel. This demand is a call for the end of Israel as a Jewish state. If all Palestinians who were living in Palestine before 1948 returned to Israel with their descendents the population of Arabs would far outweigh that of the Jews. It is estimated that these Palestinians and their descendents number between 5 and 8 million people.
