Six unexploded mines were found on the Israeli side of the Syrian border, causing Israel to file an official complaint with the United Nations forces in Syria, Army Radio reported Sunday.

Four more mines were later located on the Syrian side of the border, the representative reported.

The mines, which originated from an old Israeli minefield on the Syrian side of the border, were apparently thrown by Syrian shepherds over the security fence separating the two countries and into Israel's Golan Heights.

An IDF reservist force found the mines Saturday, which were later safely neutralized.

Israel will file a complaint with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, which operates in Syria to help maintain a ceasefire between the two countries.

According to the Jerusalem Post, one officer of the Northern Command said, making note of the recent border confrontations concerning Syrian shepherds, "This is certainly a provocation, but it does not indicate a major escalation."

Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in 1967 Six Day War, later annexing it 1981. Syria has insisted the return of the region as a condition in past peace talks.
