On February 9, Shin Bet arrested a Palestinian metal merchant accused of selling Israeli-made metal pipes to terrorists for rocket-making in the Gaza Strip.
It was found during the investigation that Amar Zak, 37, sold the pipes and other raw materials, used to make Qassam rockets, to Hamas and other terror groups. Qassams, fired almost daily from the Gaza strip, resulted in 1,700 rockets landing in Southern Israel last year alone.
"The pipes that Zak sold to Hamas' production apparatus are an example of how raw materials imported from Israel for humanitarian purposes and for civil use are used to produce weapons," reported a Shin Bet statement.
According to Shin Bet, these companies aren't aware of the destination of their products.
Last year the IDF imposed restrictions prohibiting the sale of certain types and sizes of pipes to the Gaza Strip. |
