More than half of the world views Israel in a negative light, according to the results of a new global opinion poll conducted by the BBC.

When asked to rate various nations as either positive or negative influences, 56 percent of the 28,000 respondents from across the globe gave Israel a failing grade.

According to the poll, Iran is seen as more positive than Israel, with 54 percent rating the Islamic Republic as a negative influence.

Not surprisingly, the US also fared poorly, getting a thumbs-down from 51 percent of respondents.

Several years ago, a similar poll conducted within the European Union ranked Israel as the greatest threat to world peace.
