Egypt has prohibited about 2,000 Coptic and Greek Orthodox Christians from making pilgrimage to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Israel during Easter this year, Ynetnews reported.
Egyptian travel agents informed Israel that the government in Cairo has decided not to allow this year's pilgrimage, Yedioth Ahronoth has learned.
Egypt said the decision is not related to the uproar surrounding the Israeli documentary film that Egyptians believe proves the IDF killed Egyptian POWs during the Six Day War, but rather to the arrest of an Egyptian who is accused of spying for the Mossad.
The Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem is an important pilgrimage destination for Christians as it is the site where, according to the New Testament, Jesus was crucified. |
