According to the UNESCO committee in charge of investigating the Mugrabi Gate excavation works in Jerusalem, Israel's project did no damage to any Muslim sites or any other historic sites at the Temple Mount whatsoever, Ynetnews reported.
The committee will release the report of its findings on Wednesday. The report recommends that the construction be postponed until an international monitor is sent to supervise the project.
Israel suspended the construction, which involved repairing a faulty bridge near the Mugrabi Gate, following the sudden outrage over the project from the Muslim community worldwide. Some Muslim leaders claimed the project was part of Israel's scheme to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque and build a synagogue in its stead. Others simply claimed that Israel wished to damage the mosque. There was no evidence to support these claims. |
