Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh met with the Norwegian deputy foreign minister, Raymond Johansen, in Gaza on Monday, Ynetnews reported.
The meeting marked the first visit of an official representative from a western country to the PA since Hamas' takeover in January 2006.
Norway announced Saturday that it will not boycott the Palestinian government, which has rejected two of the three Quartet stipulations, but will begin diplomatic ties with the PA immediately.
Johansen and Haniyeh discussed ways to lift the boycott on the Palestinians and the Norwegian expressed his hope that the unity government would accept the Quartet's demands, end terrorism and violence against Israel and ensure the release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit. |
