This past summer's war in the North has now been officially deemed the Second Lebanon War.
The Cabinet unanimously accepted the name Sunday, which had been chosen by the Ministerial Committee for Symbols and Ceremonies last Wednesday. Earlier last week it was decided that the conflict with Hizbullah would in fact be defined as a war.
Among the names not chosen were the War of the North and Shield of the North War.
"The most important thing is that we kept our commitment to ending this quickly and choosing a name for the war," said chairman of the committee Minister Jacob Edery.
It was a goal of the committee to name the war before Yom Hazikaron (Remembrance Day for Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism), observed on April 23 this year. |
