The Israeli Foreign Ministry has officially apologized to Janet Rogan, Britain's deputy consul-general to Israel, for a recent incident at Olmert's Jerusalem office involving the Prime Minister's intense security.
Rogan came with a group of officials from the British Treasury to a meeting at the Prime Minister's office. Despite being a principal British diplomat to Israel, and presenting documentation proving such, Rogan was given a physical security check.
Though she refused the check, it eventually ensued and involved her lifting up her shirt, reported Ynetnews.
Prime Minister Olmert ordered an inquiry after hearing news of the incident, and Israeli Chief of Protocol Yitzhak Eldan personally apologized to Rogan.
"An inquiry was launched into the erroneous matter in which this incident was handled and due to the findings of the inquiry we have updated the current procedure and apologized for any emotional distress that may have been caused," the Prime Minister's office said in a response. |
