The number of crimes committed by neo-Nazis and right-wing extremists in Germany reached an all-time high in 2006 since Germany's reunification, Ynetnews reported.
There were more than 18,000 crimes committed -- an increase of over 14 percent, the German daily Tagesspiegel reported. Over 1,100 crimes were violent.
Last July, extremists burned Anne Frank's diary in Saxony-Anhalt. In a separate incident, teenagers in Saxony-Anhalt forced their classmate to wear a sign in school with a Nazi-era slogan.
In September, Germany's National Democratic Party, which has been compared to the Nazi party, gained six of the 71 regional parliamentary seats in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in an election. |
