Gaza-based Palestinian terrorists succeeded Saturday in launching a Qassam rocket that struck a warehouse in Sderot, a southern Israeli town often the target of daily rocket attacks.
Fortunately, the attack took place on the Jewish Sabbath, and therefore the warehouse was empty at the time.
Concern was expressed over the fact that the rocket failed to trigger Sderot's early warning sirens. Had the rocket struck on a work day, the warehouse's employees would have had no advance warning, likely resulting in a mass casualty incident.
Despite having agreed to a truce in and around Gaza last November, Palestinians have fired some 200 rockets into southern Israel in recent months.
PA President Mahmoud Abbas, who was hailed internationally for brokering the ceasefire, has done nothing tangible to halt the attacks.
Israeli defense officials continue to recommend that Jerusalem, which has for the most part maintained a policy of restraint, approve an IDF operation against the Gaza terrorist infrastructure before it manages to achieve the same level of strength and coordination as Lebanon's Hezbollah.
