Olmert testifies in connection to Tax Authority scandal

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert testified Tuesday in connection to the Tax Authority scandal that his suspended top aide, Shula Zaken, is involved in, as well as Tax Authority Director Jackie Matza.

Investigators questioned Olmert for four hours in his Jerusalem home, during which time they asked about Matza's appointment as Tax Authority Director. Matza and Zaken are linked to the illegal appointment of tax authority figures in compliance with demands by businessmen who sought tax breaks.

The Prime Minister's office said in a statement that Olmert is not suspected of any wrongdoing, but his testimony is of vital importance to the investigation.
