A Gaza gunbattle between two warring Palestinian families Monday left three dead -- two family members and one bystander -- medical officials reported.

The fighting broke out between two long-feuding families, the Jerwan and the Sakr clans, in the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis. A member from each family and a bystander were killed, and seven were wounded, one in serious condition, reported Health Ministry official Moaiwa Hassanein.

It is not clear what reignited the feud between the two families.

According to Ynetnews, "Gunshots were heard near the home of a member of the one of the clans, prompting armed men from both families to rush to the scene in downtown Khan Younis. Heavy gunfire lasted for more than an hour, and sporadic gunshots were heard throughout the day, witnesses said."

Armed conflicts are not uncommon between different factions and families in the Gaza Strip, where family and factional members are frequently armed.
