| Friedman in action (Martyfriedman.com) |
| |
Marty Friedman, former member of the heavy metal band Megadeth, opened his TLV concert with a raging and roaring version of Israel's anthem. But Friedman, 44, was all ga-ga in describing the thrill of a nice Jewish boy playing in the Jewish state. Whereas many Jews long to visit Israel just once, he enthused, the lean lead guitarist merited an encore.
'Coming here twice and playing my music for these people is the best,' said Friedman, now a resident of Japan. He and his band were in Tel Aviv for less than 24 hours, and just three hours after the Tel Aviv concert they were already enroute to Prague.
But before leaving, the boyish and soft-spoken Friedman (indeed, his voice was drowned in the video mix), vowed to return. "Last time I was in Israel I didn't spend much time in Tel Aviv," he said. "I just realized how close everything is to the sea and just how beautiful it all is. So, next time I come here I'll also take a few days holiday."
