A shadowy Palestinians group believed to be close to Islamist terror organization Al Qaeda has published a flyer claiming that it has executed BBC correspondent Alan Johnston in Gaza. There was no confirmation of the claim, but the flyer promised that a recording of the execution would be forthcoming.
The flyer -- entitled "An Announcement of the Killing of British Journalist Alan Johnston" and signed by an organization calling itself "The Battalions of Jihad and Tawheed in Palestine" --makes a connection between Johnston's kidnapping and the imprisonment of convicted Arab terrorists in Israel. It blames the world for not caring about the Arab prisoners and explains that the world "wanted a bloodstained message in order to understand it."
No other Gaza organization or terror gang has confirmed the report.
DEBKAfile equates the group with al-Qaeda Palestine, and said the group is headed by members of the Gazan Durmush clan. If its execution claim proves true, it would be the first time Al Qaeda-Palestine has put a hostage to death. |
