The National Insurance Institute reported that 66 Israeli civilians were killed in terror attacks since Memorial Day 2006. 874 Israeli civilians have been killed in terror attacks since October 2000.
In addition, the number of Israeli soldiers killed while serving rose significantly to 233 since Memorial Day last year. This can be attributed to the Second Lebanon War, which claimed the lives of 119 soldiers.
The total number of soldiers who have been killed while serving is now 22,305. This number includes all soldiers who have died since 1860, when Jews established towns outside of Jerusalem's walls.
This year, Memorial Day begins on Sunday, April 22.
