Islamic Jihad denied reports that it had agreed to stop Kassam attacks on Israel, The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday.
Some Arab newspapers reported that the terrorist group met with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and agreed to stop firing the rockets. However, Nafez Azzam, an Islamic Jihad leader in the Gaza Strip, said no such agreement was reached.
"Islamic Jihad did not convey any message to this effect to President Abbas," he said. "We will not agree to any truce without getting something in return."
Another Islamic Jihad official said the former PA Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei met with the Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah in Damascus recently, but said there was no discussion of the Kassam attacks. |
