Is NZ short for Nazi? New Zealand to host Hitler birthday concert

A Neo-Nazi group in New Zealand is putting on a rock concert in Wellington on Saturday evening to commemorate the birthday of Adolf Hitler. Local skinheads, members of the gang Hammerskins and the neo-Nazi Blood and Honour organization -- banned in parts of Europe, are bringing Australian "viking rock" band Blood Red Eagle to play in the capital.

Race Relations Commissioner Joris de Bres said the plans were not illegal. "Mercifully," he predicted, "there aren't many people in New Zealand happy to celebrate Hitler's birthday. I don't think it's going to be a very big party."

Wellington Jewish community leader and Israeli honorary consul David Zwartz called the concert "distasteful and offensive". Wellington police were not expecting any trouble, the New Zealand Herald reported.
