Poll: Palestinians have no confidence in unity government

According to a recent poll conducted by the independent polling company Neareast Consulting, Palestinians are becoming more and more disillusioned with the unity government and political parties, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Fifty-three percent of those polled said they don't think the new Hamas-Fatah unity government will succeed in lifting international sanctions on the PA. Forty-seven percent believe the sanctions will be lifted.

As far as personal security, half the participants said they feel less safe than in the past, while only 14 percent said they feel more secure. Gaza has become increasingly lawless since the second intifada, with gunmen and militias roaming freely.

The poll also revealed that about 41 percent of Palestinians have lost faith in political parties and do not trust any of the parties. This figure is an increase from 35 percent of respondents in December.

Support for Fatah has remained unchanged from December at 31 percent, while support for Hamas dropped from 27 percent to 22 percent, the poll revealed.
