A student protest at Tel Aviv University Wednesday afternoon became violent when thousands of students blocked major roads and burned tires.
Special police forces gathered and attempted to prevent the students from blocking the roads, but they were largely unsuccessful. Some students resorted to climbing on top of buses in order to bypass the police barriers.
One police officer was lightly wounded. Later, students blocked the entrance to the Ayalon highway, and 18 protestors were arrested.
Today marked the 20th day of the student strike, the purpose of which is to protest plans to increase tuition and demand that the Shohat Commission be disbanded. |
