Earlier this week seventy masked gunmen opened fire at a "sports day" in a UN-operated school in the southern Gaza town of Rafiah, killing a bodyguard to a leading Fatah official killed, and wounding six.
An Islamic group believed to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda school says it warned the school not to hold the event because of co-educational sporting activities. The terror organization, calling itself Jihadia Salafiya, says the real reason for the attack was to send a message to the United Nations to stop supporting Christian proselytizing: "The UN is spreading Christian missionary [sic]. We will keep hitting them and trying to kill them. They are trying to convert our Muslims under the cover of an international organization," said the statement by the group.
Until now, Jihadia Salafiya has operated in Gaza as an Islamic "outreach movement" seeking to make secular Muslims more religious. But the leader of the organization, Abu Saqer, confirmed to WND Tuesday that his organization had recently opened what it called a "military wing" to target individuals, establishments and groups which it claims are "corrupting Islam." |
