Defense Ministry Director-General Pinhas Bukhris announced Sunday that the state will build 200 fortified rooms per month in Sderot until the city is protected. The project is expected to cost NIS 22 million per month, reported Army Radio.

On Sunday, Sderot Mayor Eli Moyal declared that "if the government wants to strengthen the city, the way to do so is to fill it and not empty it." Lately the government, as well as business tycoon Arcadi Gaydamak, has removed Sderot residents to government-run recreation facilities to give them a break from the rocket barrages.

Almost 1,000 of the city's residents, who had been on such government-funded breaks, returned to Sderot Sunday.

State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss also said Sunday that if the recommendations dictated by his recent report on Sderot's rocket-protection system are not followed, the security of the city's residents could be greatly undermined.

"I promise you truly, the criticism will continue to be harsh," he stated.
