Reserve soldiers operating on the Egyptian border complained of lacking supplies, such as water and vehicles, as well as clear orders, Army Radio reported Sunday.
The soldiers also reported that they lacked binoculars and night-vision devises.
Reservists gave the example of a commander being forced to use his private car instead of his military jeep during a border alert, because the jeep was not available. They also mentioned that a commander was forced to give his binoculars to a soldier, because the soldier's didn't work.
The reservists also complained that they were not given clear orders on how to act during certain situations, such as camel caravans, which can be used for smuggling, crossing the Egypt-Israeli border.
It was also unclear how they should deal with Sudanese refugees crossing into Israel, especially those with babies.
Sources within the army responded by saying that the situation was being addressed, and that though there were currently problems afflicting many of the unit's vehicles at the same time, it was not a normal occurrence. |
