Israel's destruction is near, stated Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sunday in a speech at a ceremony commemorating the 18th anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, leader of Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution, reported IRNA, Iran's official news agency.
"God willing, in the near future we will witness the destruction of the corrupt occupier regime," stated Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad gave last summer's war with Hezbollah as evidence of Israel's impending destruction.
"For the first time hegemony of the occupier regime [Israel] collapsed and that pushed the button counting the days until the destruction of Zionist regime," said the Iranian president.
"With the help of all the Lebanese and Palestinian fighters, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future... Anyone who works for God and believes in the power of the people will prevail," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the Iranian news agency Mehr.
Many have viewed the Second Lebanon War as a failure for Israel, and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is still struggling in the public's eye from the unachieved goals of the war.
Ahmadinejad also mentioned the Palestinian people as a force against Israel, saying that they "have begun their movement out of oppression and the world's nations and the Zionist regime will be forced to bow down to the Palestinians and officially acknowledge this people."
"The final victory, the power of the people, and the destruction of tyrants is near," concluded Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad has called for Israel's destruction numerous times in the past. Some of his representatives have claimed that he has been misquoted and misunderstood. |
