The fire at Geneva's Hekhal Haness Synagogue was the work of arsonists, Swiss authorities concluded. The blaze that broke out early in the morning of the Shavuot holiday badly damaged the building. It is considered the worst anti-Jewish attack in Switzerland in recent years.
A brief statement issued Friday by the investigative judge responsible for the case said arson was the cause. The statement noted that a cigarette butt was found at the scene, apparently discarded by the perpetrators. DNA tests performed on the cigarette butt proved inconclusive.
