After spending days at the Gaza-Israel border, Palestinians fleeing the new Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip were evacuated to Egypt by Israel Wednesday.
According to witnesses, approximately 100 Palestinians were transported by bus from Erez Crossing on the Gaza-Israel border to the Israeli-Egyptian border.
The IDF has confirmed that each individual case was looked into and checked for security risks
A military spokeswoman said that a deal made with Egypt allowed the evacuation to take place.
The Palestinians evacuated were linked to Fatah, and feared retaliation after Hamas' takeover of Gaza last week.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak gave the order Wednesday to give medical aid to victims of last week's fighting, prompting Israel to loosen its policy on removing Palestinians who asked to leave the Gaza Strip. |
