This year will mark the highest rate of aliyah (immigration to Israel) from North America in 25 years, predicts the Aliyah Department of the Jewish Agency for Israel. The department is anticipating that the rate of immigration will increase from five to ten percent this year.
"We are seeing a continued increase of olim (immigrants) of all religious streams and age groups," said Boaz Herman, the head of the Jewish Agency's Aliyah Department in North America.
According to Herman, the new immigrants range in age from less than one year old to over 90, though 70 percent are under 35 with nearly 40 percent being under 18.
Since 1948, the Jewish Agency had helped some 125,000 North Americans move to Israel. |
