According to a policy planning paper to be presented by The Jewish People Policy Planning Institute in Jerusalem next week, the future of the Jewish nation "is not assured."
A second paper highlights one of the reasons for this gloomy outlook: It maintains that the number of Jews on the planet is unlikely to grow in the next 22 years. And it bemoans the fact that "the Jewish people [are] facing a serious problem of high quality leadership, spiritual, political and professional with no clear trend of improvement."
The bleak assessment is shared by many in Israel, who for the last decade and a half have witnessed the erosion of their national security: militarily from the Arab states, the Palestinian terrorist organizations and Iran, diplomatically from the Quartet, and internally from a widely corrupted political leadership.
