Riot breaks out among Palestinians trapped in Egyptian airport

A riot broke out on Tuesday morning among the 100 Palestinian citizens who have been trapped at Egypt's el-Arish airport for one month. Two Palestinians were wounded in clashes with Egyptian riot police.

Palestinians were transferred to el-Arish airport after arriving at Cairo airport from abroad on their way back to the Gaza Strip. Egypt, however, has closed its border with Gaza since the militant group Hamas took over the strip about one month ago.

"We are living in a 100 square meters. There are no services. Water is salty and masses of mosquitoes attack us every night, a man named Ali told the AP, according to a Haaretz report.

"We have lost our minds. We broke the windows, the palm trees (inside the airport), the doors and everything around us in the airport," he added.
