Former MK Azmi Bishara said on Tuesday that he has no intention of returning to Israel to face charges of treason against him, according to the U.K.'S The Guardian newspaper that interviewed him.

Bishara is being charged for aiding Israel's enemy, passing intelligence to the enemy, contacts with foreign agents, some of which reportedly took place during the Second Lebanon War last summer.

Bishara is also suspected of money laundering. He is believed to have personally received large amounts of money from abroad, some of which was transferred during the war last year.

"The symbolic action of bringing me to trial and condemning me - they want it. I know they want it. I'm not going to let them succeed; I'm always two steps ahead," he said of Israeli authorities.

"They want to condemn the whole political ideology and put it as if it's a cover for another kind of activity, which is not true," he said
