The Israel Air Force attacked and considerably damaged a building in Gaza City Tuesday, army officials said. Palestinian officials said that there were no casualties.
A car next to the building was also damaged in the attack.
Though it was not clear why the building was targeted, witnesses said that an Islamic Jihad commander was almost killed or injured in the attack. He had been driving next to the building and exited his car when he notices the IAF.
Islamic Jihad spokesman Abu Hamze conjectured that the attack was aimed at one of the group's operatives who was traveling in a car next to the building.
Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for a Qassam attack yesterday that hit a house south of Ashkelon, injuring a baby and causing its mother and grandmother to suffer shock.
Islamic Jihad operatives have repeatedly fired Qassams into Israel from the Gaza Strip.
On Sunday, a separate IAF strike injured two Palestinian civilians in Gaza City, reported Palestinian sources.
According to the IDF, the attack was targeted at a senior Islamic Jihad operative involved in terror, but was unsuccessful.
The IDF also killed two Palestinian rocket launchers Monday after they fired Qassams at a Sderot school and near Sapir Academic College. |
