The Islamic Jihad's top military commander in Gaza was killed, along with two other of the groups operatives, in an Israel Air Force strike in Gaza Thursday.
Spokesman Abu Ahmad said that Omar Khatib, head of the Islamic Jihad's military wing in Gaza, was among those killed.
Khalil Daifi and Ahmed Abd Al-el were the other two killed in the strike.
The IDF confirmed the strike, which was described by witnesses as a missile hitting the jeep in which the three men were driving.
Earlier, IDF troops killed a Hamas militant who was armed with a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) east of Khan Yunis in al-Fahari, Gaza. The IDF confirmed the attack, saying that an army helicopter fired at the man, who was armed with an anti-tank missile.
Hamas and Palestinian medical officials, however, said that the militant tried to confront an IDF tank, and was killed by tank fire.
According to witnesses, the IDF has entered the area backed by tanks and bulldozers. The area is known as a common site from which militants fire Qassams at Israel.
Later, three Islamic Jihad operatives who were driving in the area were injured when and IAF missile was fired at them. The IDF confirmed the strike.
Reports also came from al-Fahari council head Udi al-Amur that the IDF shot at Palestinian farmers, searched homes and occupied roofs in the area.
The IAF also fired at rocket launchers preparing to fire a Qassam, though reports vary as to whether two Palestinians were wounded or four were hit in the attack.
Also, two Qassams were fired into Israel Thursday, causing no injuries. One fell near a gas station but no damages were reported.
In the West Bank Thursday, a Palestinian attempting to stab a soldier was killed at a checkpoint near Bethlehem.
According to the soldiers, the Palestinian tried to attack a soldier with a knife. During the struggle, another soldier hit the Palestinian in the head with a baton. According to the soldier, he did not shoot the Palestinian, for fear of hitting the soldier being attacked.
The Palestinian man was seriously wounded by the incident and died shortly after being treated by a Palestinian medical team.
