Welfare Ministry helps same-sex couples adopt children

A committee founded by Welfare Minister Isaac Herzog has created a new plan to help same-sex couples and single parents adopt children, reported Ynetnews Sunday.
Previously in Israel, only "normative" families, e.g. a male-female family unit, were allowed to adopt children.
This new plan will require applicants to undergo tests evaluating parenting ability regardless of sexual orientation.
The Welfare Ministry recently authorized 30 lesbian couples to adopt a child, or a partner's child.
