There may soon be an end to the uproar over Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's "shameful" proposal for a $20 stipend for Holocaust survivors to allow them to "live in dignity." Wednesday Olmert met with representatives from Holocaust survivor advocacy organizations, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Shmuel Reinisch, a representative of the Fund for the Welfare of Holocaust Survivors, expressed hope that the negotiations would lead to an increase in the stipend.
"I was positively taken by the spirit of the discussion during the first meeting. If it continues in this direction we will soon find a solution. Today we are meeting with the prime minister and after this we will sit day after day until we find an end to this whole affair," Reinisch said.
