Barak defies security establishment: no gas masks for Israeli civilians yet

Defense Minister Ehud Barak has rejected security establishment recommendations to distribute gas masks to Israeli civilians.

Maariv correspondent Amir Rappaport reports in today's edition that, despite the fact that all Israeli security authorities have recommended that gas masks be distributed to the Israeli public, Defense Minister Ehud Barak has ordered that the millions of civilians who do not have protection be provided masks only in the case of concrete danger of war.

After considerable delays a program to collect masks was launched earlier this year.
