Soldiers return to unfortified base following Qassam attack, parents outraged

Parents were outraged as dozens of IDF soldiers returned to the Zikim military base on Sunday just days after a nighttime Qassam strike that wounded more than 66 recruits, according to Ynet.

No steps have been taken to fortify the base since the attack.

"I'm very angry with the army, why do they have to do basic training in such a dangerous area? True, the army is a dangerous thing, but why at the start of their service? They have to be given a sense of security before being sent to these areas," Avraham Jana, the parent of a soldier at Zikim, said.

Vered Ziv, another worried parent, said her son was not able to sleep throughout the entire New Year holiday break. "My son was rescued from the Qassam attack, and he keeps thinking about what happened," Ziv said.

"At first we thought it would be better for him to go to jail than to return to Zikim, because at least in jail he would be protected. But eventually we decided to let him return there, although we are making every effort to get him out," she added.
