Following the fatal plane crash, Sfader Shafi, counselor for consular affairs at the Iranian embassy in Bangkok, asked the head of the Israel police forensic team, Yaki Oved, for help in identifying the bodies of Iranian nationals and sending them from Phuket to Bangkok, Haaretz reported.
Shafi said that the tragedy outweighs the diplomatic tensions between Israel and Iran, whose president has repeatedly called for Israel's destruction.
"This is a humanitarian issue and the pain is shared by all of us. There is no room for politics here," Shafi told the paper yesterday.
