The United States has asked Israel to avoid any actions in Lebanon that could potentially destabilize the country ahead of the presidential elections slated for September 25, according to Haaretz.

American officials were referring specifically to overflights of Lebanese airspace, and said they would like to see an end to the flights altogether.

A senior Israeli official said yesterday that "in any case, Israel had no intention of intervening in Lebanon's elections."
